Security forces in Hanoi on July 23 shortly detained visiting political dissident Pham Ba Hai and requested him to return to Ho Chi Minh City where he resides.
Mr. Hai, a former political prisoner, was in his room in a hotel in the capital city’s center and security agents forcibly entered the room. They violently took him to the police station in Hang Trong ward and questioned about the purposes of his visit.
After the two-hour interrogation without receiving answers, police finally demanded Mr. Hai to leave Hanoi and return to Saigon, saying the request is made based on the local security.
Police said that the human right activist must leave the city as soon as possible, otherwise they will expel him by force.
