Vietnam and Cambodia agreed to boost cooperation in implementing signed cooperation agreements in the field of religion and belief at a high-ranking meeting in Phnom Penh on August 24.
Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and Head of the Committee for Religious Affairs Pham Dung and Minister of Cambodia’s Cult and Religious Affairs Min Khin reached the consensus during their talks in Phnomp Penh, part of the Vietnamese official’s working visit to Cambodia.
Deputy Minister Pham Dung said the implementation of bilateral agreements signed in February this year will help with the enforcement of religious policies in each country.
Cooperation in religion would help facilitate belief and religion activities among people in the two countries, contributing to strengthening traditional relationship on the principle of respecting sovereignty and laws of each country, said Dung.
Minister Min Khin thanked Vietnamese people for helping Cambodian people in toppling the genocidal regime Khmer Rouge and in protecting and developing Cambodia into a prosperous country as it is today.
The minister also spoke highly of the coordination and assistance the Vietnamese government’s committee for religious affairs has given to Cambodia’s Ministry of Cult and Religious Affairs.
During the meeting, the two sides also informed each other of religious and belief situation and shared experience in the implementation of religious policies in each country.
They also agreed that the immediate task is encouraging localities along the border to implement signed agreements to together build a border of peace, cooperation for mutual development and benefits of the two countries’ people.
During his visit, the Vietnamese official and his entourage will pay a call visit to two religious leaders, the Great Supreme Patriarch of Cambodia Tep Vong and the Supreme Patriarch of the Thammayut order of Cambodia Bour Kry.
The delegation will also meet Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs Sar Kheng and visit some localities in Cambodia.-VNA
